History Lesson

The students bend over the war to examine it in precise detail. They see birds on a battlefield, canons firing KA-POW! signs, and smoke. A woman is waving behind the smoke—as if wiping clean a vast window.

This isn’t what it really looks like, she says.

But the students can’t hear her. They keep bending over the war until finally their heads touch.

There is a mosquito on the general’s hat.
